YBhg Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali, a Malaysian, aged 66, was appointed as Chairman of MBSB on 22 June 2001. He is also the Chairman of the Executive Committee of MBSB. YBhg Tan Sri holds a B.A. (Hons.) from University of Malaya.
Upon graduation from University of Malaya, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1966. After several domestic and foreign postings, he was appointed the Malaysian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in 1979. He was appointed Ambassador to Vietnam in 1982 and returned to Malaysia in 1985 to be Deputy Secretary General III (Administration) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before being appointed Ambassador to Austria in 1988. In 1991, he again returned to Malaysia to be Deputy Secretary General I (Political Affairs) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in 1996 he was promoted to Secretary General. In September 1996, he was appointed Chief Secretary to the Government, the highest ranking civil service post in the country and was responsible for overseeing and coordinating the policies of the government and their implementation. He retired in March 2001, at which time he was made Chairman of the Employees Provident Fund until 31 January 2007.
YBhg Tan Sri is the Chairman of Multimedia Development Corporation and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He also holds other directorships in public companies including Esso Malaysia Berhad, LCL Corporation Berhad, IJM Corporation Berhad, Malakoff Corporation Berhad and Badan Pengawas Pemegang Saham Minoriti Berhad (Minority Shareholders Watchdog Body Limited).
Syed Zaid Syed Jaffar Albar, a Malaysian, aged 55, was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director on 14 August 2002. He serves as Member of the Executive Committee and the Arrears Recovery Committee. He is also the Chairman of Nomination & Remuneration Committee. He holds a law degree from the United Kingdom and is qualified as a Barrister-at-Law, Lincoln's Inn.
Syed Zaid Albar was called to the Malaysian Bar as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1980 and has been active in legal practice ever since. Presently, Syed Zaid Albar is the managing partner of an established law firm in Kuala Lumpur.
Apart from that, Syed Zaid Albar also holds other directorships in public companies namely Malaysian Pacific Industries Berhad, Narra Industries Berhad and Kencana Petroleum Berhad.
Encik Lau Tiang Hua, a Malaysian, aged 56, was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director on 16 August 2001. He is also the Chairman of the Audit & Risk Management Committee and a member of the Arrears Recovery Committee. He is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and the Malaysia Institute of Taxation.
Encik Lau Tiang Hua began his career with one of the international public accounting firms in Malaysia and later rose to the rank of Audit Manager. He was the General Manager of finance and administration with a major publishing company in Malaysia before starting his own practice, JB Lau & Associates, Chartered Accountants, in 1985 which has since merged with Grant Thornton on 1 January 2008.
Encik Lau Tiang Hua also acts as an Independent Non-Executive Director for PanGlobal Berhad, Tomei Consolidated Berhad, Scanwolf Corporation Berhad, Land & General Berhad and Ewein Berhad.
Puan Cindy Tan Ler Chin, a Malaysian, aged 49, was appointed as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of MBSB on 26 September 2002. She also serves as a Member of the Executive Committee, Arrears Recovery Committee and Audit & Risk Management Committee. She acquired an Honours Degree in Economics, majoring in Statistics, from University Kebangsaan Malaysia. In 1991, she obtained a Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance, accorded by the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants.
Puan Cindy began her career with the Employees Provident Fund ("EPF"), Finance and Investment Department in 1984. She is currently the General Manager of the Treasury Department, Investment Division of the EPF.
Puan Cindy is also a Director of Malakoff Corporation Berhad.
YBhg Datuk Abdullah Haji Kuntom, a Malaysian, aged 65, was appointed as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director on 26 September 2003. He serves as Member of the Executive Committee and Nomination & Remuneration Committee. He obtained a Master's Degree in Public Policy and Administration from University of Wisconsin, USA in 1979 and also attended a course in Advanced Management Programme from University of Oxford, U.K in 1995.
YBhg Datuk Abdullah began his career with the Johor Civil Service in 1967 and was placed in many Government ministries and departments over a period of 36 years. Amongst the key positions held were Deputy Secretary of the Contract and Supply Division and Senior Assistant Director of the Budget Division, Ministry of Finance. He was also appointed as the State Financial Officer of Selangor, Administrative Officer of Asian & Pacific Development Centre (APDC) and Deputy Secretary General 1 of the Home Affairs Ministry. His last post was as Senior Deputy Secretary General in the Prime Minister's Department until his retirement in April 1999. Thereafter he was reemployed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 4 years as the Chief of Protocol until April 2003.
YBhg Datuk Abdullah is also a Director of Leader Steel Holdings Berhad.
Encik Khalid Haji Sufat, a Malaysian, aged 53, was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of MBSB on 18 August 2005. He is also a Member of the Executive Committee. An accountant by profession, he is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (United Kingdom) and a Member of both the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) as well as the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA).
Encik Khalid has substantial experience in the banking industry after having held several senior positions namely, Managing Director of Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad from June 1998 to June 2000, Executive Director of United Merchant Finance Berhad from 1995 to 1998 and General Manager Consumer Banking of Malayan Banking Berhad in 1994.
After his foray in the banking industry, he was involved in managing and restructuring few listed companies in the corporate sector. He was the Executive Director of Tronoh Mines Malaysia Berhad in 2002 and the Group Managing Director of Furqan Business Organisation Berhad in 2003. He was appointed as the Group Managing Director of Seacera Tiles Berhad from mid 2006 to late 2007.
Currently, Encik Khalid also holds other directorships in public companies namely Binapuri Holdings Berhad, Amtek Holdings Berhad and Uzma Berhad.
Encik Aw Hong Boo, a Malaysian, aged 59, was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director on 10 November 2005. He serves as Member of the Audit & Risk Management Committee and the Nomination & Remuneration Committee. He is also the Chairman of the Arrears Recovery Committee. He is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW).
Encik Aw Hong Boo began his career in 1970 as an Audit Senior in London and later with Ernst & Whinney, an international public accounting firm in Singapore and London from 1974 - 1977. He served in RHB Bank Berhad for 21 years between 1978 to 1999, holding various senior managerial positions in financial management, banking, finance and leasing. He was the Senior General Manager of Branch Network and Risk Management before his optional retirement in November 1999.
Presently, Encik Aw Hong Boo serves as the Financial Advisor to the Quill Group of Companies and is a Director of Quill Capita Management Sdn Bhd, the Manager of Quill Capita Trust.
Encik Jasmy Ismail, a Malaysian, aged 45, was appointed as a Non-Independent and Non-Executive Director of MBSB on 11 August 2009.
Encik Jasmy holds a Master of Science in Transport, Planning and Management from City University, London. He has extensive working experience in various fields. He started his career in 1988 when he joined IBM Malaysia. He held various positions within the Sales and Marketing organization, focusing mainly on the Public Sector and Financial Services Industry. Prior to leaving IBM Malaysia, he was the Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer of IBM Malaysia.
Encik Jasmy later joined CCAAP Technologies Sdn Bhd as the General Manager in 1996. He was also the Executive Director of New Technology and Innovation Sdn Bhd and was responsible for sales operations.
In 2000, Encik Jasmy co-founded Symphony Global Technologies Sdn Bhd and was involved in the formulation of Symphony House Berhad which was subsequently listed on Bursa Malaysia in 2003. He was the Chief Executive of Symphony's Technology Services Division, responsible for the formulation and implementation of business plans and strategies of the division. He was also appointed as the Chairman of Symphony BCSIS Sdn Bhd, a joint-venture company with OCBC Singapore's subsidiary company. He held the position until 2007. He also sits on the Board of Symphony BPO Solutions Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Symphony House Berhad.
In 2007, Encik Jasmy together with his colleague, carried out a management-buy-out of one of the subsidiary companies of Symphony House Berhad. He is presently the Chief Executive of SGT International Sdn Bhd.
Encik Ahmad Zaini Othman, a Malaysian, aged 52, was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer on 26 February 2009. He has extensive experience in the banking industry and the corporate sector for more than 24 years. Prior to joining MBSB, he was the CEO of AmIslamic Bank for three years.
In 1996, Encik Ahmad Zaini served as the Head/Senior General Manager of Corporate Banking in AmBank Berhad. In 1993 he had a stint with Perwaja Steel as the Senior General Manager / Director of Corporate Finance. Between 1984 to 1988, Encik Ahmad Zaini started his career in Merchant Banking with Bumiputra Merchant Bankers and Intradagang Merchant Bankers.
Encik Ahmad Zaini obtained his Higher Diploma in Accounting from Manchester, England and holds a Degree in Bachelor of Science in Finance from Southern Illinois University and Master in Business Administration (Finance) from St. Louis University, USA. He is also a Practising Member of The Association of Chartered Islamic Finance Professionals Malaysia (ACIFP).
