| Working experience and occupation | Tan Sri Abd Rahman joined the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in April 1975 as an Assistant Director. During his 35-year career at MITI, he held various senior positions before retiring in December 2010. Among them include Deputy Trade Commissioner, Malaysian Trade Office, New York, the United States (US); Director of Trade, Malaysian Trade Centre, Taipei, Taiwan; Economic Counsellor/Trade Commissioner and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission, Malaysian Trade Office, Bangkok, Thailand; Special Assistant to the then Minister of MITI; Member of the Board of Directors, Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT); Director of Industries; Senior Director of Policy and Industry, Services Division; Deputy Secretary General (Industry) of MITI; and Secretary General of MITI. During his 35-year tenure in MITI, Tan Sri Abd Rahman also served as MITI's representative on the board of various government-linked corporations including Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA), Johor Corporation, Regional economic Development Authority (RECODA), Sarawak and Small and Medium Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp), Pahang State economic Development Corporation, Malaysian external Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), and Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC). Tan Sri Abd Rahman was an honorary member of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations, a Malaysian Leader for the High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Economic Integration and a member of PEMUDAH (Public- Private Sector Task Force To Facilitate Business). Tan Sri Abd Rahman also serves as director of several public listed companies and private limited companies in Malaysia, operating in finance, manufacturing, property development, retail and services sectors covering global logistics, healthcare, as well as oil, gas and energy. |
