He is an associate member of the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) and Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM).

YBhg Datuk Haji A. Rahim was attached to Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) from 1972 until he retired as Deputy Director General in 1998. He was also appointed President of the Board of Architects Malaysia (BAM) from 1989 to 1998. He was a Property Development Consultant with Golden Hope Development Berhad from 1999 - 2005. YBhg Datuk Haji A. Rahim is a Council Member of Badan Warisan Malaysia. He sits on the Board of Directors of a few other non - listed companies and is also a Director of Pelangi Berhad.
